"Rally Central" will be this air conditioned pavilion at the Stone County Fairgrounds:

Not fancy, but did I mention it is air conditioned?  And has a basic kitchen too -- and tables & chairs:

Here is a view of the fairgrounds showing some trees for some shady camping spots:

Any suggestions as to the best or worst motels/hotels in the area. My wife and I are not campers but we would like to come.

Hi oldriders:  There are a good number of lodging options in the area, ranging from B&B's to un-branded motels.  Dry Creek Cabins & the Fiddlers Inn are both expecting us:

3 blocks: Dry Creek Cabins at the Ozark Folk Center State Park (no pets): http://www.ozarkfolkcenter.com/cabins/default.aspx

5 blocks: Best Western Fiddlers Inn (pet friendly): http://bestwesternarkansas.com/mountain-view-hotels

5 blocks: Pinewood Cabins near downtown (no pets):   http://www.pinewoodcabins.net/

In addition to RV/camping sites, the Ozark RV Park as 4 "motel room cabins" across the road from the fairgrounds: http://www.ozarkrvpark.com/

Check here for additional lodging options:   http://www.yourplaceinthemountains.com/lodging/

Or call the helpful folks at the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce at:  (870) 269-8098

The closest RV & off-site camping sites include:

The Ozark RV Park across Park Avenue from the Fairgrounds is the closest --   http://www.ozarkrvpark.com/ -- 870-269-2542 --

Park Map should be here: http://www.ozarkrvpark.com/pics/map.jpg

The Whitewater RV Park is block down the Street from the Fairgrounds -- http://www.whitewaterrvpark.com/ -- 870-269-8047 --

Park Map should be here:  http://www.whitewaterrvpark.com/pics/map.jpg

Kudos to whoever had a hand in choosing Mountain View as the next site. This is an absolutely beautiful little town in north-central Arkansas. They are extremely experienced in hosting gatherings of this size. The riding is fabulous, with many many motels/hotels, and any number of activities available, especially trout fishing. If anyone has a particular question about the area simply email me at jimampaco@comcast.net and ask away. We have trout fished in this area for twenty years and not many restaurants have escaped our credit card.

It was great to find this info. We already had the Rv park info and have our trip planned. We'll be making reservations this week. Post rally info and fees as soon as possible. We like to have everything done well in advance for a trip. Thanks!

There are several local activities for children and the adventurous young-at-heart, such as:

Crafts and educational activities at the Ozark Folk Center just down the street: http://www.ozarkfolkcenter.com/

Loco Ropes zip-line adventure in the trees just a couple of blocks away:   http://locoropes.com/

The Sylamore Creek Camp has a great location for swimming, canoeing and exploring the clear waters of Sylamore Creek about 5 miles up the road -- day use for creek access is permitted for a small fee: http://www.sylamorecreek.com

A short introduction: I am smith8833 (Keith) my wife the Navigator (Lynda) and I, live just outside of Mounatin View and have offered (vulunteered... suckered) into helping Swampfox with the event!
We ride a Harley sportster rig (our second vehicle)
I am happy to answer question or direct anyone to the best answer!
Some of the shops/cafes/restaurants and now the coffee shop will not take plastic, only cash or check!!!
There is a small group of friends/volunteers, us included, that run another event in town: http://www.mountainsmusicmotorcycles.org/ 2012 was the eight year (still ran/managed by this group of volunteers) Judging by the normal response of our rig in town, a large group of sidecar rigs will be a hit!!
Questions?!?! PM/post or Swampfox can wake me!

Let's be sure to keep in mind that this is a very modern little town. Banks abound as do restaurants (More fast-food places than you will care to visit), gas stations, motels, and (be still my beating heart) a Wal-Mart Super Store. The only drawback that comes to mind is the dry county aspect.

Just outside the county, are liquor stores (roads 5, 9,14) all are pretty rides. One restuarant, Anglers serves beer (have to join the "club" I will get the details. No alcohol bought or sold in the county. Always remember as the song says, the RED SOLO cup is your friend!

We watched the Arkansas/Alabama game in the sports bar at Anglers. Not only beer, but wine and mixed drinks are sold also. Anglers is
about 5 miles north of Mountain View towards Jack's Trout Resort.

Do the tent sites at the fairground have access to shower facilities?

We have an arrangement for use of showers at the Ozark RV Park across the street; restroom facilities are available in the primary meeting hall on the fairgrounds.

Also: Tent sites (no hook-ups) on the Fairgrounds do not have to be paid in advance. It's OK to pay for tent camping during on-site registration.

And we plan to have a "re-charging station" set up in the main pavilion for phones, etc.

The USCA national rally would not be a success without volunteers to organize the various activities.  Several folks have graciously volunteered to handle the following responsibilities for the 2013 rally:

Welcome/Registration, Message Board & Drinks:

Barbara & Larry - LA;  Gail & Larry - CA; Judy & Lloyd - TX

NOTE:  Barbara, Gail, Larry & Larry need more volunteers to man the registration/welcome table, and also to take care of the water, tea, ice & coffee we plan to have available to rally participants.  Please let us know if you can help.

Registration Photos:  Butch & Nancy - TN

Rally "Action" Pics:    Jim - AR

Games & Awards:      J.R. & Avanell - TX and Elmer - AR

Door Prizes:             Jim & Brenda - TN

Off-Pavement Rides: Local Ural riders Jim & Ed - AR

Road Captains:         Jim-TN, Keith-AR & Lee-LA

If it was just a few days later Barley and I would have caught it on our way back from Oregon. Unfortunately the timing is off.

That part of AR is pretty country. Push Mountain at sunrise is about as good as they come!

Hey, you left CA off the list of attendees!

Thanks for the packet of info for Arkansas. Assume that means we are counted as registered.
Looking forward to a great rally.

Stay sane, all will be well.

Ride safe, gail

Jay, the general schedule for organized activities is still the same -- at this time, but subject to change.

We do plan to have a message board to post times/leaders for smaller group rides for sightseeing, breakfast, lunch, ice cream, dinner, etc.

There is a Young Pioneers (for children 7-14) hands-on program for crafts and music at the Ozark Folk Center at 11 am, 2 pm and 3:30 pm each day:  http://www.ozarkfolkcenter.com/kids/young-pioneers.aspx

Also:  Upon entry into the park, each child automatically becomes a member of the Folk Kids' Club. They can pick up materials for a scavenger hunt throughout the park. When they return with a completed card, they will receive a “Folk Kids” button and other special treats!

I'm thinking a group or 2 or 3 might want to ride Push Mountain Road after visiting Blanchard Springs Caverns.  I'm sure there's a lunch stop or two around Fifty Six, Norfolk and/or Calico Rock. Cool

Fifty Six has a nice country diner! Norfolk has/had a little burger joint owned by bikers!? A few miles north of the north end of 341/push mountain rd. is a convience store with snacks, a few miles north of that is the damn of Norfolk lake! Calico has several places, and a ghost town inside the working town!

O boy...looking forward to visiting Mountain View...seems very peaceful and serene...very pleasant riding and environment...unlike here in Chicago...dodging bullets, hearing car stereos that can shake nuts and bolts loose...swerving on streets having a jillion pot holes...if it wasn't for the money I would leave and move...lol lol...can't hardly wait to get to the rally.

Cathy and I did some gravel road scouting last weekend (even had to pull over once to let another Ural go by!)
Found lots of roads that wanted riding at <20mph (but didn't require 2wd).
Looking foward to the rally.

"...... I am looking forward to run Push Mt"

It's definitely a great crooked road.
Be aware that 341 is something of a destination for the sport bike guys on weekends (especially the southern part), so be prepared for them zooming past.

As fate would have it I took Hwy 341 (Push Mt. Road) late this morning. My GS was the sportiest bike I saw. A number of HD's were out.
The road is in good shape; one could do worse than to ride its 25 miles and turn around and ride back to Hwy 14.
It looks like the Advance store has been closed for a while but it's only about a dozen miles further to Norfork if fuel is needed.
Perhaps it should be mentioned that the Forest Service has provided nice (covered) pistol and rifle ranges about 16 miles north of Mt View should one wish to blast a few rounds.

Preliminary details re: the Thursday morning off-pavement ride from Jim:

Depart from Fairgrounds at 8:30am, riding about 60 miles to the lunch stop in Allison, could take up to 4 hours including plenty stops for photos and fellowship.
There is a place or two along the route with rest rooms. Total route about 80 miles.

About 2/3 of the way through will hit Hwy 5 if anyone wishes to end there, will be about 15 miles from Allison at that point.

Ride should return to Fairgrounds no later than 3:00pm.

I plan on riding it a couple of times
My Ural has yet to set foot(?) on 341, I expect to see things I hadn't noticed before.
It should be an easy 2 hour loop back to Mt. View, whether turning around on the north end or taking hwy 5 around through Calico Rock.

We're looking forward to this. Kids just got out of school and are ready to go somewhere. I guess if we bring the dog, we can fit 5 in the rig.
For those going to Blanchard, before or after you go down in the cavern, check out the spring itself outside. Lots of folks miss that because when they are done with the tour, they leave. The volume of water coming out is pretty amazing and the park is really nice, too. We've explored some of the above ground "caves" in the hills there and it's a great place for a picnic.

Here's the plan for the Dis-Organized Group Ride(s) to the Blanchard Springs Caverns:

We have reserved +/-100 spots for the tours for Friday, June 21st at 9:40am, 10:00am and 10:20am, with max 34 per group.  Admission is not included in the rally registration.

Group Rate is $7.50/adult and $5.00/children 6-15.  HOWEVER, to qualify for the rate we have to purchase the tickets in bulk on Thursday.  THEREFORE:

We will be collecting admission for the Caverns at registration on Thursday until 2:00pm, then we will send a trusted messenger to the Caverns to purchase our group tickets.

We plan to post Road Captains on an Announcement Board for several groups for the 12-1/2 mile ride to the Caverns -- and may also incorporate an additional ride, perhaps including a lunch stop.  We will break into smaller groups so as not to overwhelm the area restaurants.  Potential routes/destinations might include Push Mountain Road, Norfolk Dam, Calico Rock and one of my favorites, the Timbo Dairy Bar.

This will take some planning and cooperation, but the Caverns is worth the effort -- pics from http://www.blanchardsprings.org/ :

I went through Blanchard Springs a few years ago with a group that had a six year old, I don't remember it being a special tour. It's a fair amount of walking but I think the typical kid will be entertained by the place.

Just checked out the cave website -- Is there a kiddy tour?

Our tour of the Blanchard Springs Caverns should be ~1 hour with ~1/2 mile of walking incorporating ~50 stair-steps with by-pass ramps also available.

Bring a long sleeve shirt as it's ~58* down in the cave!

Looks like great weather this weekend, only rain forecast is 20% chance Friday and Friday night. Highs in the (very) low 90's, lows high 60's. We probably had more rain early this week than Stone County received but I don't expect the dirt (gravel) roads to be very dusty.
Hats off to everyone taking the time to travel some distance to the Rally, I've seen a couple of reports posted already. I'd maybe start one myself but I only have 45 miles to cover.

Just got in from AR and I and the old Goose had a great time. I didn't find a bad road in the area, but I could not find any of the hackers to follow me around, after I told the story of my first gravel road in the area. Three miles up the steepest, most switchbacks and did I say fresh graded that morning, road that I found while there.

I did manage to to ride over 2/3rds of the time off pavement, with most being in the forest, Some of this turned out to be dead ends back in to areas where they had trailed in to fight fires.

I also picked up plaque for Rat hack with several stating hardest ridden hack at the rally.

What a great group of folks one bubble off to the side from all across the U.S. with one couple riding in from B.C. Them darn women even talked me into competing in games where the sidecar passenger had to toss things in buckets, of course I drove standing in the sidecar, left hand for throttle and brake, right for pitching. It was fun but I did not win.

Here's a small slideshow.

Kids, Julie and I had a great time with you guys in Mountain View. Asked the kids what they liked the most and got "cave, catfish, twisty roads, sidecar games, cool sidecars and people......" Oh, and hotel swimming pool. Yep, it was a big time for everyone. Thanks for being so nice to the kids.

And, thanks to all the organizers for working hard to put it together!

Ride safe,
Gary

We were home by 10:30 Sunday morning (of course we only had to go 50 miles).
Was a great weekend for us, Cathy was a trooper for her first camping trip.
I was hoping for a bit higher percentage of tent campers but had quality folks that did.
Only had one other rider for the gravel road ride, might have been more if it was on Friday.
If Cathy had been unable to attend I would have tried to stay up with you cleatusj, I think we like the same kind of roads.

While dropping off daughter at the Little Rock airport met an older gent -- called himself "Sidecar Bob" -- lives north of Mountain View -- had a short talk as the sun was very hot and he was entering hospital for some heart work -- wish him well

We would like to thank everyone for comming to our little community! Spoke to several of the locals and they really enjoyed the event! All of you, made it a great weekend and made all the work and time worth it! The kids that served breakfast, raised enough for several of them to go on the mission/camp trip, they are very greatfull for your donations!

I'm hoping to see some great pics from Butch and you other folks who had real cameras out. In looking at a few pics I took with my phone, I realize that you must all be vampires since only the rigs showed up in the pictures. Here are a few

You're right SideCar, you can't see the people. Surprised

We're sure glad folks had a good time.  The local community was a big help in the success of the rally.  Here's a big thanks to the folks that contributed not only their time but also their $$$ to our group:

Butch & Nancy gave not only their time/photo equipment, but also donated the photo paper.

Barbara & Larry not only assisted with registration, but also donated tea/lemonade/plates/cups, etc.

Jim & Kathy spent a weekend scouting the off-pavement ride in advance.

Jim & Brenda donated lots of time/postage sourcing door prizes from various suppliers.

Jim taking taking lots & lots of action shots.

And Jena mixing up her pulled pork sauce. Cool

I will try to work with Jim to see if I can get his action pics uploaded.  I didn't take many rally pics since Jim had that covered, but here are a few:

Wednesday evening cool enough to enjoy the Stone Country Drive-In -- but with the long days, it was sure a late night for me:

I suspect this may have been the 1st Drive-In Theater for some of our younger folks -- but a couple of 'em admitted to falling asleep at least once during the show Laughing:

Gary, I ran out of time before I made it over to your rig.

J.R. & Avanell with Lil'Bit were ready and waiting for the Superman - Man of Steel:

Blanchard Springs Caverns is identified as one of the crown jewels of the U.S. Forest Service, as many of us will agree.  Wow, what a beautiful place.  This was my 3rd trip, and I'm more amazed upon each tour:

The best surprise of the rally was the group ride to Blanchard Springs.  Once we walked into the shade canopy, the cool 58* water gushing out out the Caverns created natural a/c in the hollow.  We didn't want to venture back into the sun for the return ride:

I have some more pics from our travels to/from the rally -- I will post them in a separate post in the On the Road With... section of the forum.

The SS Heavy has reached its home port in Brazoria Tx.

We left home on Father's day, made our way to Arkansas for the rally, then to Kansas to enjoy highs of 105, Colorado for the 4th and camping later on around Durango (the ground has lost some elevation since the last time I camped out), New Mexico was next with visits to the historical squares in Santa Fe and Albuquerque and parts of old Rt 66 and finished up in the Texas Hill country to run thru the twisted sisters (w/trailer) and then home.

Traveled 4500+ miles. After the rally saw only one sidecar rig in Kansas. No mech problems at all.....

The rally was the highlight of the trip -- Thanks to all who put it on and all who attended - When and where is the next national rally?????

What was the final head count Lee? Or did you already post it and I missed it?

DR, the head count it was about 185. We had 65 rigs in the Saturday morning show, plus maybe another 1/2 dozen rigs out & about.

I received this Thank You Note:

I just wanted once again say THANK YOU GUYS for your generous donation to our charity.  You really don't know how much it was appreciated.  Rest assured that every dime went to the Arkansas Children's Hospital.  Due to your help we have been able to raise enough money to meet our goal and buy a zero weight treadmill for the Kids.  It was one of their greatest needs.

We presented our check to the Arkansas Children's Hospital during our ride on Sept. 15, 2013.

Thanks Again..............Don Null, Co-Chairman Arkansas Bikers for Children

===========================

$1,200+ was raised for the Arkansas Bikers for Children during our National Rally in Mountain View.  The USCA extends our thanks to ABC for enhancing our rally. /Lee

Great news, Lee. Thanks for passing that along.

By the way, just to tempt you to come west in October, I thought I would let you know that our Ride for Kids event in the DFW area includes a planned lap on the Texas Motor Speedway and the host hotel is a great hotel right across from the speedway - Just sayin......
I'll post a link and info later so I don't hijack this thread too badly.

Biscuit and I also want to say what great news that is, Lee. Helping kids in any way possible always puts a smile on our face. Gary, we'd like to head to Texas but the BBBq rally in Fayetteville will
probably take up our spare days. We hope to see a few of you at that rally. Jim and Brenda in Memphis

... Helping kids in any way possible always puts a smile on our face....

In a small way, we sidecarists have contributed to the saving the life of Kali Hardig:

Kali Hardig, 12, contracted amebic meningoencephalitis [a rare but nearly always fatal disease] at a Little Rock, Ark., waterpark in July.  She is only the third known survivor of the deadly infection in the last 50 years....  Doctors say Kali's success is due in large part to experimental treatment and early detection and diagnosis.  Kali's mother took her to Arkansas Children's Hospital with a nasty fever on July 19.  Doctors cooled the girl's body down to try to reduce the swelling, and they won clearance to treat her with a breast cancer drug....
