Novice S/TEP classes for the 2010 season will be available through Hood River Community Education on the following dates:
May 14, 15 & 16
June 11, 12 & 13
August 27, 28 & 29
The registration fee is $260
Sidecars are provided for use during the Novice S/TEP class at no additional charge.
To register call Hood River Community Education (541) 386-2055
Prior motorcycle experience is not needed for the novice class. We will cover basic motorcycle operation as part of the class. You must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license to take the class. If you are under 18 years old you must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. Each class is limited to 12 students for safety and quality reasons.
You may take the class using your sidecar or trike or one of ours. If you choose to use your own rig for the class, you must have proof of insurance and the machine must be in a safe operating condition.
Be aware the driving exercises will be conducted on a grass lot.
Because of insurance requirements, this course of instruction requires pre-registration and prepayment.
The Sidecar Skills mini tour is geared more towards folks that already have some experience or training. We will brush up on technique and work towards perfection during the Advanced S/TEP class, then apply it during the rides Saturday afternoon and Sunday. The routes will be a mixture of highway and secondary roads with some gravel and dirt roads as well.
This is not a substitute for the Novice S/TEP class. If you have never taken a S/TEP class or are new to sidecars we strongly encourage you to take our Novice S/TEP class.

This package includes the standard Advanced S/TEP class followed by a day and a half of riding with as much off pavement routes as we can squeeze in. I plan to stay out a little longer on Sunday than our other tours so if you are here from out of town it would be prudent to book your room through Sunday night. We may get in a little late to run back to Portland to catch a flight home.
The route I have planned includes portions of the old Barlow Toll Road. This was the Western most section of the Oregon Trail. To get to the Willamette Valley or the coast you either had to shoot the rapids in the Columbia Gorge or take this treacherous trail around Mt.Hood.
I may have to modify or change the route at the last minute, due to closures. El Nino may be sending us a bad fire season this year. If I need to change the route we will still be covering interesting ground with the rides tending towards dirt and gravel roads and a few technical challenges. If you plan on bringing your own sidecar, be sure it is in good shape and you have at least 8″ of ground clearance and good dualsport tires.
This package is not for beginners.
