Hi,

In December I picked-up a Champion Vintage Sidecar. This has been a joy.
I was able to take a trip from Philadelphia to Iowa and back with no issues.

3 days after I returned, on the we to work, the bracket connecting the steering dampener to the front wheel broke.

I am very concerned as I only put about 3k miles on the rig.

Any ideas as to the cause and how it can be prevented.

(I am waiting for the dealer to pickup the rig as the nearest champion dealer is 1.5 hours away.)

Thanks

Looks like the bracket was initially defective. I suspect that if you called Champion or maybe emailed them your pictures that they would send out another part so you could bolt it on yourself.

They could stand to be beefier. Not much steel left after it's bored.

I have found that if you have your alignment correct and slightly over tighten the steering head bearings you do not need a damper. Dampers make your bike steer heavier which is the last thing you need. In general we do not use them and when we do have to use them we use a damper with much less dampening force then what Champion uses. I would see about running with out the damper.
