The location and Campground.
Grandfather mtn campground is in Foscoe, NC. Less then 10 miles from Blowing Rock, a town similar to but a little larger then Nashville IN., Valle Crucis, a small historic town, Banner Elk, a ski town, and Boone a slightly larger tourist and college town. Both Boone and Blowing Rock have numerous rooms from motel 6 to grand lodges, and a full range of restaurants. The campground is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mtn, Linville caverns, Mt Mitchell, and numerous other activities including Horseback riding, river rafting, hiking and shopping. It is across the street from a quick mart gas station, 300 yards from a diner style restaurant, 2 miles from Smoketree Lodge, and 4 miles from Grandfather Village, with a Supermarket,Eckerd, several small shops & restaurants, & MacDonalds. A Best western is about 7 miles towards Banner Elk. There are various other mom and pop motels in the area. Grandfather Village is on the Contenental divide at just over 4000 ft. The campground is downhill but still over 3000ft. The campground is large and spread out next to a river, next door to a small town park with free swiming in the river, and views from the group area of grandfather mtn that my riding friends were sold on. It has a small pavilion that comes with the larger of the two group areas. It has a very positive staff, they will handle registration for us, will reserve tent sites and rv sites next to the group areas. There are a variety of cabins and two bathrooms and laundry are located next to the large group area. The bathrooms are interesting for a campground in they are home style- private entrance with a sink, toliet, and shower in each unit.

I will be there but no Mr. Baxter this year.
Is there going to be a group rate on camping fees or will they be as shown at the campground's web site?
Basic tent camping in the large group area is $5 per head per nite. Private shaded tent sites are $18 for two per night. Rv sites vary by type. A variety of cabins are also available.
Please state you are with the usca when you call to make your reservations so they can place you next to the group area.
The private tent sites, rv sites and cabins need to be reserved through the campground. The basic $5 camping will be paid to the campground, but does not need to be reserved. Cabins, rv sites and tent sites should be reserved early, as the campground is saving a block of them near the group area, but will release the ones we don't use sometime next spring. There is no discount in rates, but as a group we get use of the large group area at no cost, in effect a discount on camping rates.
We are trying a new rate system this year, having people pay camping fees diectly to the campground, this way everyone only pays for what they use. In the past basic camping has been included, which meant rv and motel folks paid for basic camping in the rally fee they didn't use. This also means folks will only pay for the number of nights they camp.
We have not set a rally fee yet as we are still collecting quotes on food, tents, entertainment, etc. But it should be lower as no camping charges will be included in it. It will be collected by the usca separate from the camping fees.

A question.....
There are campsites and a "general camping area". Site rental is $18/night while the general area is $5/night. Might I guess that the expensive sites are shaded while the general area is out in the open? Depending on the weather, shade just might be worth the extra $13.
The private sites are on the left side of the group area if you look at the website map. The $18 includes two campers, so only $8 extra a nite if you are with someone, extra $5 head after 2. You do get some shade, your own fire pit, flat parking and flat tent area. If I was by myself I'd probably just camp in the group area. If I was bringing a family, or had a trailer, car, ect. I wanted to keep next to my tent, I'd spring for the tent site. If you do go for the tent site, ask about it's layout. Some of the sites on the left of the group area are at road level, and some are down a bank in the woods next to a brook, with additional privacy. Both have there merits, you need to decide which is right for you.

I do believe that Sergio and I will be there with the ladies. I have our hotel reservations already. Too old to camp. Besides, I need the weather channel. Really looking forward to this as it will be my first national SC ralley. Been to a couple of BMW nationals over the years and a lot of locals, but not this one. We were in this area in very late October and November, and it is beautiful. Really unbelievable. See you in June.

I talked to the campground manager today about available RV sites. There was some confusion about sites being no longer available.
There still are some RV and Tent sites reserved for the USCA members next to the group area to choose from. The cabins are full. You need to ask for one of the USCA sites when you call.
IF YOU KNOW YOU ARE GOING MAKE RESERVATIONS SOON!
The campground, and most others in the area as well as most motels will be full at this time of year. It is peak season in the Boone area. When the campground's other RV sites are full they will start offering the sites held for USCA to general campers.
There will be room for group camping so if you plan to ride in and put a tent in the group area, don't worry. We won't fill up the group area, it is quite large.
