Please accept this as an open invitation for sidecar enthusiasts to gather this fall on October 17-19, 2008 at the Shady Glade Resort on Caddo Lake in Uncertain Texas. Yep, that's a real town.

A gathering is proposed rather than a rally as I don't know a thing about "rallying", to be centered around the Shady Glade, which has about 6 motel rooms and 2 mobile homes for lodging, with additional room for tent campers (there are small restrooms w/shower available), plus a small pavilion with grill and fire ring. More info is available here: www.shadygladeresort.com. The Shady Glade is also building a couple of small overnite cabins. It's not a flashy place and the pavilion is more like a 20x30 equipment/hay shed, but it's in a unique locale. The weekend of Oct 17-18-19 was completely unbooked as of a week ago. Please check with David or Sarah for reservations. Also, a local fellow named Billy Carter is a sidecar enthusiast and operates 5 cabins along the lake within 1/2 mile: www.spatterdock.com. Also check here for more area info: www.cityofuncertain.com or www.uncertain-tx.com.

Uncertain Texas is about 20 miles from the historic town of Jefferson, with a quaint downtown with museums, antique/junk shops and restaurants.

I can help set up morning coffee pot and an evening grill for burgers and/or fire for hot dogs. There is a small cafe on the premises for breakfast/lunch, plus the 2 mobile homes on site have kitchens w/frig. The Caddo Grocery c-store is about a block down the road for basic supplies.

Also, we have small boat to putter folks around Caddo Lake, plus there's a steamboat paddle wheeler in the immediate area, and I might be able to muster up a pontoon boat for a tour around the lake.

The date was selected after confirming with Elmer that he is not hosting a fall gathering in Arkansas. Please email with questions and/or suggestions.

We look forward to meeting a bunch you in person.

Good for you. This is the way the “Y’ll Come Rally” got started here in Fla. I was told to pick a time and place and the rest would come.

From The Handbook of Texas Online: UNCERTAIN, TEXAS. Uncertain, also known as Uncertain Landing, is an incorporated community on the shores of Caddo Lake seventeen miles northeast of Marshall in northeastern Harrison County. The site was once known as Uncertain Landing, so named, according to one local tradition, because of the difficulty steamboat captains in earlier days had in mooring their vessels there. Another tradition has it that the town name came from the uncertainty that residents had about their citizenship before the boundary between the United States and the Republic of Texas had been established. The latter uncertainty was a substantial benefit to residents who did not like paying taxes. In the early 1900s the site included a hunting, fishing, and boating society called the Uncertain Club. During the 1940s the community had scattered dwellings, a sawmill, several camping lodges, and some five other businesses. In a bid to promote tourism by providing an area with legal alcohol consumption, the community was incorporated as Uncertain in 1961....

Well, maybe not the top, but here's a view of Caddo Lake looking East from the little pavilion on a foggy morning. Well, the pavilion was actually 200 feet or so behind the camera.

Hurricane Ike wasn't too hard on the the Uncertain area. Eletric power was restored within a few days, so everything is back up on running.

Also, if you like driving the back roads as much as we do, be careful re: your gasoline situation, as we've noticed a lot of the small country stores either are routinely out of gasoline, or have just stopped selling gasoline all together -- apparently an effect of the higher COD cost of refilling the storage tanks.

The Uncertain?Rendezvous 2008 was a "certain" success with about 18 rigs in attendance plus several two wheelers and other visitors. A good time was had by all. Attached is a group photo.
