Leaving Mesa Verde around 12.30pm , we arrived in Durango early afternoon , well on time to retrieve our tickets for the train ride of the following day .

Coming that early to the place allowed us to sign in to be in the first group of visitors to tour the Cliff Palace at the Long House . We had a very good Park Ranger who made us discover this monument where ancestral Pueblo people lived and governed .

By mid way to the top , we took this picture of that side of Mesa Verde that faces the Mancos Valley .

July 15th , by 7.25 am , we take Route 160 East to Mesa Verde National Park . From the entrance to the Visitor Center , it takes half an hour of curvy driving .

Monument Valley ! the picture has been taken from the spot that is supposed to be the one favored by John Wayne ! Back home we have to see " Stagecoach" , the 1939 movie that was filmed in Monument Valley ! From there we continued our trip , passing the limit of Colorado and stopped for rest in Cortez , CO .

Of course ... a small stop for the souvenir photo !

Saturday , July 14th , we left the hotel by 7.30 am to gear up on Route 63 en route to the Monument Valley .

The inside of the Tower has been painted by a Hopi artist in the name of Fred Kabotie . Then , by 2.30 pm , we left the Grand Canyon and headed East on Route 64 and then Route 160 to stop in Kayenta for rest .
